Wildlife in Turkey
Coming on holiday to Turkey and looking forward to seeing some wildlife? It is always useful to know something about common wildlife in Turkey. Depending on what you are doing there are opportunities to see many different wildlife species. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, then it is always worth packing a pair of binoculars in your suitcase. Here then are some examples of wildlife in Turkey.

If you are staying in one of the popular coastal towns such as Fethiye then it is likely you will see the resident pair of Pelicans as well as sea Turtles in the harbor. If you are hiking on the Lycian Way in spring or autumn, then t is likely you will come across tortoises. In the skies above birds of prey includes eagles, buzzards and hawks. Domestic goats roam the hillsides and small lizards warm themselves on big rocks. Red squirrels are common in the countryside and favor large olive trees.

Harder to see wildlife in Turkey are nocturnal animals such as porcupines and wild pigs. Evidence that they have been around though is easy to spot. Pigs disturb the soil where they are routing for bulbs and truffles. Porcupine quills are a common sight on the ground.
If you take a boat trip and go snorkeling then there are numerous fish, squid, starfish and sea turtles that you are likely to see. Less likely but possible are dolphins and seals. Some local beaches are protected in south west Turkey to allow the sea turtles to nest on them.
