A Charity Hike on The Lycian Way Route
The Lycian Way route
Great to see two English girls hiking on The Lycian Way route in November. The weather is still 20 degrees here in South West Turkey. Perfect hiking conditions. We met them on Patara Beach whilst walking our dog, Charlie. Nobody else on miles of golden beach, the turquoise waters warm and clear. The girls planned to walk the whole of The Lycian Way route & were doing it for charity. They are raising money for a great cause in The Alzheimer’s Society.
The girls came and stayed with us for a couple of nights but also planned to camp for some of their trek. It was an opportunity for them to get some washing done and not have to carry their back packs for a few days.
Without their tents & most of their kit they covered a couple of sections of The Lycian Way route in one day. We felt this was going to be a bit ambitious but both looked very fresh when we picked them up after 8 hours hiking. I think we had forgotten what it is like to be in your twenties again!
They were both full of praise for the hospitality & friendliness they had received. It is something guests tell us time & again about their holiday in Turkey. ‘The people are so friendly and helpful’. It is great to hear and a part of what makes such a brilliant experience when you come to Turkey. That & the great scenery, weather, food, historic sites & much more.
If anyone would like to donate to their cause you can contact us for their ‘Just giving’ webpage. Or we will set up a link here soon.
We wish them all the best hiking on The Lycian Way route in the coming weeks. Hopefully they will get lots of support for their chosen charity.
