A few days hiking on The Lycian Way
Hiking The Lycian Way
We have just returned from a few days hiking The Lycian Way route between Uzumlu and Cukurbag. The walking as always is wonderful with great weather to match.
We did not meet as many hikers as expected with only a few other groups around to talk to. It was however lovely to meet a group of 4 retired Namibians who loved hiking on The Lycian Way route. They told us that they were really enjoying their experience in Turkey. Everyone that they had met had given them a very warm welcome.
As always traditional Turkish hospitality helps make Lycian Way hiking holidays here so special as not only do visitors get rewarded with great views but also great food and warm welcomes everywhere they stay. We have included a few pictures from our hikes.
One thing to bear in mind, sometimes the route, because of its’ length, suffers some ‘man made’ changes from time to time. We had a few challenges on The Lycian Way route in a few sections particularly towards Phellos. Here recent forestry operations had removed both markers and rock cairns left by previous walkers. We spent time marking the route using new rock cairns so hopefully walkers who come after us will have an easier time of finding the route. If you are in a situation where you are not sure where to go then just take your time, go back to the last marker or rock cairn and head out in search of the next…
